Every month, HOBA partners with Independent Television Service (ITVS) to host Community Cinema. The Oakland Asian Cultural Center and the San Francisco Public Library hosts these free community events. Come join us for the monthly film screening and panel discussion!

THE EYES OF ME
How do you see yourself, when you can't see at all? At the Texas School for the Blind students juggle all the usual pressures of high school along with the added struggles of growing up blind. Spend a dynamic year with four blind teens learning how to fit in and live independently. Forced to confront the world without sight, they share their inner-visions of the outer world. Ultimately, you cannot understand their perceptions without challenging your own. |

Inspired by William Bryant Logan’s acclaimed book Dirt: The Ecstatic Skin of the Earth, find out how industrial farming, mining and urban development have led us toward cataclysmic droughts, starvation, floods and climate change. What is Community Cinema?
ITVS Community Cinema is a monthly film screening series showcasing the Emmy - Award winning PBS series Independent Lens. Screenings are followed by lively panel discussions and audience Q & A in order to connect communities with relevant organizations, resources and opportunities to get involved in some of today's key social issues. What is ITVS?
ITVS brings to local, national and international audiences high-quality, content-rich programs created by a diverse body of independent producers. ITVS programs take creative risks, explore complex issues, and express points of view seldom seen on commercial or public television. ITVS programming reflects voices and visions of underrepresented communities and addresses the needs of underserved audiences, particularly minorities and children.
What are my responsibilities if I decide to sign up for the film screening?
Come, sit in the audience, enjoy the documentary film, and participate afterwards by listening and/or asking questions in a thought-provoking panel discussion. Film screenings won't count as volunteer hours for schools or court.
